“Corporate Social Responsibility: The Good Outweighs the Costs”

ConferenceCorporate Social Responsibility: The Good Outweighs the Costs”– 24th April, 2014 / Ljubljana

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of ICPE and long standing excellent cooperation with the Indian Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises (Department of Public Enterprises) and Faculty of Economics, Ljubljana partners jointly organize the first annual conference in the series titled: Corporate Social Responsibility: The Good Outweighs the Costs” on 24th April in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Conference will consist of one day panel discussion and workshops.

1. Topic

The issue of whether companies should consider their corporate social responsibility or the impacts of their activities on their stakeholders is no longer up for discussion. On the contrary, these issues have become a central part of the management of both global and local enterprises. The question facing most senior general managers and most CSR, community affairs, and EH&S managers, however, is how to do it successfully. The challenge is how to measure CSR performance, how to manage it, and how to report it. A particular challenge is how to integrate CSR impacts and financial performance into day-to-day management decision-making because of the various tensions between these goals, such as short-term competition and inconsistencies and long-term benefits. The tensions evolve further as managers often have significant incentive pressures to increase short-term earnings. It is also often unclear how stakeholders will respond. But this can be done. Best practice, innovative companies show that the good outweighs the costs.

2. Conference

Organized under a partnership between the Indian Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises (Department of Public Enterprises), Faculty of Economics, Ljubljana and ICPE.

International speakers will explore, among others, the following crucial themes:

  • The global role of CSR and different approaches to it;
  • The various stimuli for CSR including the CSR business case;
  • The role of innovations in improving CSR and financial performance;
  • Measuring and reporting CSR impacts;
  • Evaluation and reward systems can align individual and company CSR goals;
  • CSR programs as a competitive advantage in workforce recruitment;
  • Engaging with stakeholders to improve CSR performance.
