International Exhibition “Mandela Poster Project”

The International Center for Promotion of Enterprises has the pleasure to invite you to the opening of the international exhibition “Mandela Poster Project” organized by the Designers’ Society of Slovenia in collaboration with the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia. The exhibition will show 95 selected posters which illustrate the life and achievements of Nelson Mandela and his thinking. Among the selected posters there are also two of the Slovenian authors, Vesna Brekalo and Eduard Čehovin.

The exhibition can be viewed until Sunday, May 18, 2014.

Part of the exhibition will be displayed at the International Center for Promotion of Enterprises, Dunajska 104, Ljubljana, during the 3rd Africa Day international conference on May 19-20, 2014.

The opening will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at 7 p.m. at the National Museum of Contemporary History, Celovška cesta 23, 1000 Ljubljana.

During the opening ceremony among the speakers also ICPE Acting Director General Janez Podobnik will address the exhibition visitors.

ABOUT THE MANDELA POSTER PROJECT

In May 2013 a group of designers from South Africa came up with an idea to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s life by collecting 95 posters from around the world, honouring Madiba’s lifelong contribution to humanity. In 60 days designers from more than 70 countries submitted more than 700 posters. The submissions were curated and the final collection of 95 exceptional posters has been exhibited in South Africa, and will travel to over 15 destinations around the world in 2014. This inspirational story of global collaboration is called Mandela Poster Project. The collection has since been sold to the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), home to South Africa’s national design promotion body, Design Institute.

In the process, the project has successfully achieved the aim of raising a substantial sum of money for the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital Trust Fund, Madiba’s legacy project. In lieu of the high calibre of works received, it was felt more works needed to be showcased than the original 95. Plans are underway for a limited edition publication showcasing 365 of the posters submissions. Mandela Poster Project is endorsed by the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) and is an officially recognised World Design Capital Cape Town 2014 project.
