ICPE explores collaboration in the field of financial Markets in Developing Countries

ICPE representative Dr Anand Asthana met London School of Economics Financial Markets Group Representative Mr Julius Sen on 28th January 2025 for a preliminary discussion on potential collaboration between ICPE and LSE’s FMG, which revealed several promising avenues for partnership, primarily centered on their complementary areas of expertise and institutional priorities. Key areas for collaborative engagement that would be subject of future detailed discussion were identified.

The FMG’s extensive work on financial market regulation and systemic risk could meaningfully intersect with ICPE’s focus on public enterprise management, particularly in transitional and developing economies. Examining the interface between public sector enterprises and financial markets would leverage both institutions’ core competencies.

FMG’s methodological rigour in financial research could enhance ICPE’s analytical capabilities, whilst ICPE’s practical expertise in public enterprise management across diverse economic contexts would enrich FMG’s understanding of public-private sector dynamics.

FMG has gained a lot of expertise in financial markets across the world including Africa, Latin America and South-Eastern Europe. Development of executive education programmes focusing on public enterprise finance and market integration would serve both institutions’ mandates. Combining FMG’s financial expertise with ICPE’s public enterprise management experience could be particularly valuable for public sector leaders from emerging economies.

Finally, collaborative policy research examining the role of public enterprises in financial market development, particularly in transitional economies, could generate valuable insights for both academic and practical application. LSE challenges conventional perspectives on global power relations and knowledge production. So does the ICPE.
