ICPE Facilitates Introductory Call Between CABI and Slovenia’s National Institute of Biology

On 25 August 2025, ICPE facilitated an introductory call between the Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International (CABI) and the Slovenian National Institute of Biology (NIB). The meeting, opened by ICPE Advisor Mr. Jure Tomc, aimed to explore opportunities for cooperation in agricultural research, diagnostics, and pest management.Prof. Maja Ravnikar, Director of NIB, presented the institute’s research strengths, including diagnostics of plant diseases and biodiversity studies.

From the CABI side, Ms. Phyllis Ombonyo highlighted CABI’s global mission of supporting member states in addressing agricultural challenges, with particular focus on biological control solutions, pest management, and digital innovation.

The two institutions identified several promising areas for collaboration, ranging from low-cost diagnostic solutions for farmers to sustainable pest management and phytosanitary research. Both sides agreed to continue the dialogue, with follow-up meetings planned to define concrete joint activities.This engagement marks the beginning of what is expected to be a fruitful partnership, combining NIB’s advanced scientific expertise with CABI’s global reach in supporting sustainable agriculture.
