On July 24, 2015 Dr Wilmer Armando Depablos, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and his colleague Ms. Belen Baragam, advisor for the economic affairs visited ICPE offices.
The diplomats were welcomed to ICPE by the Director General and other senior officials. The Director General recalled the rich history of close cooperation between ICPE and Venezuela in the past. The drastic reduction in poverty rates caused by Bolivarian revolution in Venezuela has been an inspiration to many member countries of ICPE. Dr Armando Depablos felt that ICPE’s expertise in promoting effective management of public sector could be useful for Venezuela.
It was recalled that the idea of ICPE was formulated in the Foreign Ministers’ Conference of Non-Aligned countries. From time to time Conferences of Heads of States of Non-Aligned countries have appreciated the expertise of ICPE in various fields of public enterprise management and exhorted Non-Aligned countries to join ICPE and cooperate in the field of human resources development, finance, trade, technology, joint ventures, industry, consultancy and integration of women in development. Specifically, the countries countries contemplating major public enterprise sector rationalisations have been advised to use the expertise available with the centre. Since Venezuela is the current chair of the Non Aligned Movement, Dr Armando Depablos mentioned that ICPE will be invited to attend the 17th Summit of NAM which will enable ICPE to strengthen ties with other member countries of NAM.
