The International Center for Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE) organised the visit of Mr Ole Tome Reteti, Cultural Ambassador of the Maasai people, to Slovenia in connection with the Talek WASH Initiative, a Rotary Global Grant project aimed at improving access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene in the Talek community in Kenya.
The visit provided an opportunity to present the objectives of the Talek WASH Initiative to Slovenian partners and stakeholders, while also highlighting the importance of local leadership, cultural understanding and community ownership in development cooperation. Mr Ole Tome Reteti’s participation offered valuable insight into the realities of the Talek community and the wider Maasai context, helping to make sure the project is communicated and developed with due respect for local needs, traditions and long-term priorities.
The Talek WASH Initiative brings together Rotary partners, local stakeholders and international supporters around a practical development objective: to contribute to improved water security and public health through an appropriate, sustainable and community-oriented solution. The initiative also reflects the relevance of partnerships that combine technical solutions with education, environmental responsibility and local implementation capacity.
For ICPE, the organisation of the visit is in line with its mandate to support cooperation with developing countries and emerging economies through knowledge exchange, partnership-building and the promotion of practical solutions that respond to concrete development needs. In this regard, ICPE recognises the Talek WASH Initiative as a meaningful example of international cooperation that connects technology, community engagement and sustainable development and will be actively involved in the project design and implementation.
